Blast off to Space!
Junior Infants were very busy in February. We left the polar regions behind and blasted off into space. This was a really fun theme and we learned lots and lots about the planets, the stars and the sun. Some children brought in their space teddies and we read lots of lovely books about space, both fact and fiction. We even watched a video of the first moon landing.
We had great fun on our play areas this month. We have being working very hard on our letter sounds and we had great fun making signs and writing plans for our play.
In our role play area we made a rocket and went to the moon. We also explored different planets and some boys and girls were very busy making passports in the space station for all of our busy astronauts.
We had a space station in our small world as well. We had great fun making lunar rocks and comets out of tinfoil. We even made moondust in science. We launched our rockets successfully.
For construction we used big cardboard boxes to make rockets, space stations. Some boys and girls even made couches with hand rests so that the astronauts would be comfortable in the rockets.
We introduced a new station during this theme- the creative station. We made aliens and spaceships out of play-dough, pipe cleaners and beads. We used old cardboard boxes, toilet roll inserts to get really creative. We made rockets, aliens and all sorts of fun things. We painted these and brought them home to show our families.
We loved learning about space.
